Regular scout route sanitation collection resumes Jan. 20, 2025
Black Mountain Public Works Department announces new sanitation truck and return of regular scout route collections beginning Monday, January 20, 2025.
A new sanitation truck will begin pick-up routes along the “scout routes” and back door stops on Monday, January 20th. This new truck, known as a “mini packer” is a smaller sanitation truck that will be able to run routes on smaller roadways. This mini packer truck replaces the former “scout truck” that previously ran these routes, which was damaged by floodwaters from Hurricane Helene. This new truck will be able to hold more garbage quantity with the equipped packing device that compresses garbage tightly together. This means that this truck can collect more trash along the routes without having to go and dump the truck as often, thus increasing efficiency.
Public Works Director Jamey Matthews states “this new mini packer truck will be more efficient and be better management of staff time when it comes to the sanitation collection process. The truck is more suited for the Town’s needs and is also equipped with a tipper on the back for emptying cans.”
Following Hurricane Helene, sanitation collection along scout routes were paused and residents were asked to take their trash to the nearest main road. Town officials worked to secure this new truck that met the Town’s needs and sincerely thank our residents for their cooperation and patience during this time.
Pickup along these scout routes will resume their pre-Hurricane regular routes on Monday, January 20th, and residents will no longer need to bring their trash to the nearest main road. All scout route roads will be able to be serviced beginning on January 20th, apart from Sisters View Dr., until necessary road repairs are made to that road.
Please note, Town administrative offices will be closed on Monday, January 20th, but all sanitation collection will run on a normal schedule.
Additionally, as a reminder, all recycling must be loose in your Town issued recycling cart. If you lost your recycling cart during Hurricane Helene or are a new resident, please bag your recyclables in blue recycle bags. Clear bags are also permissible. Recycling placed in trash bags of any other color will not be accepted during recycling pickup.
