Buncombe County reinstates certain service fees in 2025

Buncombe County Health and Human Services will reinstate fees for certain services, including vaccines, well permits, and more starting on January 1, 2025.

Following the impacts of Hurricane Helene, the Buncombe County Health and Human Services Board held a special meeting in October 2024 to waive certain Public Health fees. This waiver, effective retroactively to September 27, was aimed to help individuals and businesses recover.

Since then, the County’s Public Team has provided 1,000+ vaccines at their Community Care Stations.

However, starting January 1, 2025, those County fees are back in place. Fees now apply to:

  • Vaccines for COVID, flu, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis, and Hepatitis A (adults)

  • Food Service Plan Reviews (for facilities over 500 sq. ft. or renovations under 500 sq. ft.)

  • All well permit fees

  • All Water Sample – no site visit (Self-Collect) fees

  • Well water sampling for pesticides, herbicides, petroleum, volatile organic compound (VOCs), chemical panel w/ Nitrate/Nitrites, Chemical Panel, Nitrate/Nitrites fees

Free vaccines are still available for those who qualify. The State of North Carolina offers certain free vaccines to those who qualify year-round, and the Vaccines for Children program ensures access for eligible children including those who are uninsured or those enrolled in Medicaid.
