Debris Removal

Debris removal throughout the Town of Black Mountain is being conducted by AshBritt, a contractor for the Army Corps of Engineers. The first phase, which is taking place now, is limited to removing debris from the right-of-ways (curbside). Multiple passes will occur over next few weeks.

  • If you have storm debris, please bring these to the right-of-ways (curbside) by your road or street and separate as best as you can into the following:

  • Vegetative debris such as tree branches, logs, shrubs.

  • Home debris from the storm (inside or outside) such as drywall, lumber, furniture, carpet.

  • Appliances damaged or flooded during the storm such as refrigerator, washer/dryer, stove. Secure doors on these appliances.

  • If you have cut up logs or trees to keep for firewood, please do not stack these near the debris piles, so they aren’t accidentally picked up.

  • Please bag leaves (with no debris) using brown compostable yard waste bags (preferred) or garbage bags. You may also place loose leaves in trash cans. Ensure bagged or canned leaves do not include sticks or other storm debris.

Please note that NCDOT is handling debris removal on bridges.

Important! Do not place debris under power lines or any downed lines. Avoid placing debris near utility boxes, fire hydrants or meter boxes to prevent damage during the pick-up process.

Questions? Contact 828-419-9300, option 4 , stop by Town Hall (open Mon.-Fri., 8am-5pm), or send an email to recovery@tobm.org. The email account is being regularly monitored so we can ensure your inquiry is received and answered.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work in this next phase of our Town’s recovery efforts!
