Community-based BMT Volunteer Corps launches needs assessment survey

In the hours after Helene cut through Western North Carolina in late September, as the loss and devastation became apparent, the people of Black Mountain collectively raised their hands and asked,

“What can we do to help?”

Since then, hundreds of volunteers have become the backbone of a community-based effort to deliver goods, services, and hope to those in need. Now that group has a name: the BMT Volunteer Corp. They serve East Buncombe communities and beyond, and they’re asking to hear from you right now.

What kind of help do you need?

For the next two weeks, BMT Volunteer Corp is focusing their efforts on coordinating the distribution of essential and disaster relief supplies that will soon be arriving from multiple entities including Excel College, Samaritan's Purse, Red Cross, a couple of area ministries, and individual donors.

BMT Volunteer Corp is inviting all residents of Black Mountain, Swannanoa Valley and our other local areas to complete a household needs assessment. This will allow the BMT Volunteer Corp to better understand who has what immediate cold weather and safety needs, which will help them distribute supplies accordingly. Items that will be available for distribution through their efforts include blankets, coats, boots, generators with an initial supply of fuel, shovels, small refrigerators, and more.

Take the Household Needs Assessment now:

If you are a resident of our immediate area, you are strongly encouraged to respond to the BMT Volunteer Corp survey no later than October 30.

Thank you!
